If you have used any design software before, there is not a lot to learn about Sketch. It's all self-explanatory. There is a lot less functionality than in PS. Just watch a few YouTube videos and you should be ready to roll.

Very fresh and informative. I would love to know what tools they use at Stripe to make those animations with 3D transforms etc. Surely they are not hand coded.

Reverse engineering anything and everything in your path. It's the single best way to get into other designers' shoes. It forces you to think what grids (if any), what colour combinations, what typography/fonts and their sizes where used and why.

  • Posted to Ask DN: Do you use a Mouse, Tablet, or the Trackpad to Design?, Jul 27, 2016

I switched to the magic trackpad 2 just a few months ago. At the beginning it felt horrible but now when I have to work with a mouse, I feel like a cripple. The fact that you don't have to move your hand around as much is probably the best part of using a trackpad but that's not all. Pinching and zooming as well as scrolling around my sketch artboard is just very natural and effortless.

I know there are a lot of trackpad heaters out there because I used to be one. The thing is, they never gave it enough time to sink in.

Just in case this helps anyone, the exported video size has to be in even numbers otherwise the codec doesn't render it properly.

I'm working on a series of different animations but they all are having the exact same issue. Here is the AE file of another animation but it has the exact same issue. It would be awesome if you could have a look at it and let me know what's causing it.

There is a simple solution to this problem. When upsizing or downsizing images, they will often fall in between pixels (with decimal values).

To solve this (with your image layer selected), simply round your position and size values to nearest pixels or go to Layer > Round to Nearest Pixel Edge. You can also assign a shortcut to this function. After this, exported images should look crips and clear as well.

    Hope it helps!

Working with text in Sketch is a pain in the ass. That's the only drawback it has. Unfortunately there is no workaround for it. I ended up just eye-balling all my text. It's very demotivating if you're trying to be pixel-precise.
