Do these homeless people have access to mobile phones for this mobile app? I'm sure the service means well and does a great deal for those who do have access. It seems like the infrastructure issue of homelessness seems like a better target for this end all be all solution for technology to solve everything.

Perhaps I'm painting a different picture of someone who is homeless than this app is targeting. In a temporary homeless situation I suppose I could see this working...? Going down the list though I can't say that this app really has that in mind.

I certainly hope it evolves into something more visually interesting. I know it behooves us as designers to think about function over form more times than not, so I'm at war internally with the whole flat trend. In neither category is it perfect though.

Visually, for me more times than not "flat" makes the visual design of things less interesting. Yes, I think the process has reduced itself but I don't think that "flat" is a reduction so refined it won't be (hopefully soon) surpassed by a better visual and functional system. Both for users and designers.

I'm relatively young in my design career right now, but I seriously doubt "flat ui" is the apex visual design standard for the remaining evolution of our trade.

We use photoshop, because at the end of the day despite all the tools available that/indesign are best for compiling things together to pitch to a client.

That said, personally I like to keep an inventory of various things I find via Pinterest, niice and behance collections.

I'm graduating in a couple of weeks and I'll tell you straightforward just like everyone else: absolutely not. You don't have to be incredibly picky about jobs right now but at the same time don't get stuck lowering yourself to something that doesn't even treat your time as worth money. I haven't worked for free the past four years and you may have to look around more (well outside of craigslist) but it's definitely possible to find the right people.

They kind of lack in teaching the business side of things in a lot of educational design programs but unless it's your startup I would avoid it.

It's my last few weeks in school right now actually. Right now it was worth it for the connections I've made professionally but design-wise you get out what you put into it.
