Agreed!
Hey Designers it's Michael here! I just uploaded a new YouTube video on my thoughts on the current state of designer portfolios and how you can potentially improve it, to win more clients.
I've been a full-time Freelancer for over 3 years now. I've grown my team to 3 full-timers and am sharing my learnings and journey with you all. I work closely with startups from SFO, NYC and Sydney and a few larger corporates including Adobe and Microsoft.
Would love to hear your thoughts :) If you liked this video, hope you to see you Like, Share and Sub :) BTW Since #May1Reboot is coming up.. thought this might be relevant!
PS. Still very new to this YouTube thing!
Hello Designers,
My name's Michael (Better known as Mizko) and I'm one half of Bukket. Philippe and I are both product designers and have worked with a handful of Australian startup success stories. Our daily grind involves finding, organising and managing a ton of visual assets. On the side we also run www.uigarage.net which has been a #1 featured product on PH.
As you can see we spend a lot of time finding and collecting visuals, whether it's for personal inspiration or sharing inspo on UI Garage - we needed a tool to help us accomplish all this.
This is when Bukket was born. Our vision is to build a simple yet powerful visual bookmarking tool for designers, by designers. What we have now is still in its very early stages and we can't wait to see how this evolves.
We'd love to hear your thoughts :)
Those are some neat achievements but the engagement definitely tops the list mate! Congratulations!
Oh, it's funny how yourself, @Samuel Zeller (above) and myself have all worked with Adobe. What a small world!
Oh that's awesome, we should definitely stay in touch! In 2017 I'm hoping to set up a few partnerships with indie dev teams - I'll reach out on Twitter.
Hey Samuel,
Thanks is incredible! Love the passion and I'm so happy to see that you've made the jump. You're killing it! I just subscribed to your newsletter and took a peak at your side projects. Very impressed.
What do you find most effective for growing your newsletter? Giveaways? Downloads? Would love to know.
Also what are your thoughts on Revue over Mailchimp?
Thanks!
Hey guys, really glad you're all onboard. @Austin hits the nail on the head about conferences are more about inspiration and the 'bigger picture'. Once again, they're always refreshing to go to once in a while!
But don't prioritise them over everything else :)
I've been to many design conferences etc.
I honestly would recommend you to save/spend your professional development budget on building out side projects.
Workshops and conferences are 80% hype. Yes there are some very talented creatives on the line ups etc. but nothing beats throwing yourself into the deep end and learning for yourself.
Challenge yourself, come up with an idea, conceptualise it, build it, launch it, grow it and iterative it.
If you can do that, I will assure you - you will: 1. Find it far more interesting than sitting at a conference all day. 2. You will develop an entire skillset you'd never thought of having. To stand out as a UX Designer, you need to be able to have a full-fledged product design mindset. 3. Most probably develop a deeper passion for UX. When you throw yourself into an idea you believe it and you try do whatever it takes to make it work.
That's just my 2 cents.
We're so excited to announce this! Designers we'd love to hear what you all think and what you'd like to see in further updates.
