Freshbooks. I find their interface to be clean and easy to use. I also really like their payment reminder feature and that I can see when a client has viewed an invoice.
Most clients pay by mailing a check, though for smaller jobs (where the merchant services fees are minimal — usually hourly maintenance that totals under $250) I accept credit card payment through Stripe via Fresh Books.
I'm slightly biased as Noun Project is a partner on my web comedy series about design, but I really liked their style and selection and that's why I initially approached them to team up with us. If anyone is interested in checking them out, you can use code HOMEOFFICE for a 20% discount.
For the record, this is not an affiliate code — I don't stand to make anything if people use it. Hopefully it comes in handy!
I used to live in Brooklyn and sometimes it's hard to make it to the post office if you're shipping anything substantial. Especially if you don't own a car. I used Shyp to send an iMac when I moved cross-country. It was so much easier than trying to figure out how to pack it myself. They picked it up, boxed/padded it really well (better than I could have done), and shipped it for me. For only $5 it was totally worth it. Wish they had it where I live now.
Thanks Pierre!
Thanks Raffaello! So glad you enjoyed it!
I'll pass along the Alfred E. Neuman comparison to the actor :)
Hi everyone!
A couple weeks ago, I shared the first couple episodes of HOME/OFFICE — a new comedy series I created about being a freelance web designer.
Today we're releasing Episode 04: Finding Creative Inspiration >
The series is drawn from my own 10+ years working as a designer. There are a lot of jokes and moments aimed at those of us who've worked as creative professionals. Hopefully you can relate!
I hope you enjoy it and I'd love to hear what you think!
Josh
Here are a few past episodes — new ones every Monday:
01: Starting Your Own Business >
02: Landing Your First Client >
03: Dating in the Digital Age >
04: Finding Creative Inspiration >
These frameworks can easily bloat — glad to see Foundation is always trying to be leaner. One of the reasons I love it!
Thanks David!
