Google assistant call a business. Google assistant answers. Nobody actually calls anybody.
Sometimes the standards are defined by the way people use a functionality and not by the original intent of the designer.
The majority of websites I visited, use the hand cursor as a cue to say that something is clickable. That created a pattern, a mental model around how the cursor works on the web.
With some effort and time, we could revert this pattern. But why would we? Is it worth it?
I can see your point. I would slightly rephrase my statement to say that these topics are not under discussed, but rather happen below the surface for many new starters or people who live in places where there isn't a strong design community and their main channel to talk with peers is the web.
Agree with your last paragraph. Probably this self-congratulatory behavior is also what keeps us from having deeper discussions. Feedback is something I try to approach in depth with them. Mostly to counteract this exact behavior. Thanks for sharing your point of view.
Sound like a good idea Benjamin. My goal with this post is rather to collect topics that are important but kind of neglected online so I make sure to at least cover them in my sessions :)
True! I lived a lot the "You are the specialist" problem. It was the main motivation behind diving deep into psychology and related areas.
If more people contribute with this question, I will compile all the topics so we can find a way to exchange tips and tricks on them.
"Imagine if our medication, food, etc were designed around engagement. We already have a term for that, and it's addiction.
I don't understand why we guard our physical intake from 'addiction', but don't show anywhere as much concern re: our cognitive intake despite our mind not mattering any less than our body."
Great statement here. Also agree that a lot of the responsibility is on our side as designers. Especially when we make use of psychological biases to influence our users' actions
Hey Lucas, what is your end goal? Popularity? Reaching potential clients?
One focus on the number of connections you make. The other focus on quality.
What are your strengths as a professional? Are you sure dribbble is the right place to reach your audience?
I am not exactly a dribbble guy, but I guess it is built upon certain social dynamics - as any other social network - that you can use it in your favor once you understand them.
Do Under Armour or Adidas and you will be a true innovator :D
I see. Although I feel this to be a waste of talent, I can the understand the rationale behind this perspective.
Thanks for adding to the discussion :)
