I signed up for the the preview, because even with symbols, managing and building flows in Sketch isn’t fast enough for me.
I think I’m looking for something deeper than comments. I want to show a correlation between a section of screens and how they meet a particular set of user needs, how it conforms to existing design patterns (or extends them) or how it meets the terms of an SOW or business goals.
Maybe this can be accomplished through notes or a grouping of a set of screens and I just haven’t seen this functionality yet.
I’m looking forward to playing with the preview!
Any plans to have note features? I've been thinking about this exact design presentation need, but I want to show how the overall flow meets business goals or SOW goals, or maybe even an entire section of the flow meets a particular need or goal.
Would you really ever need to max out the specs, really? I mean, if I was looking to buy a desktop I would just get the baseline model. It almost seems silly to max out this form factor for all of the reasons stated, so why bash it?
If you’re really going to be spending 15K on a workstation wouldn’t you be wanting to have a small rendering farm set up anyway (so you can continue working while rendering)? I guess it depends on what your pipeline setup is and what kind of work you’re doing (single scenes or stills vs sequences).
¯_(ツ)_/¯ doesn’t matter what Apple makes, some people like it, some people will hate on it. Seems to me that nobody else could design a world class monitor that’s also a pretty amazing computer.
I think a lot of people have answered well. Working hard, and learning all of the positions that a Lead has to manage – from Interns up through Sr. Designers, and how to leverage all of their abilities. How to teach each of them, and how to help each of them succeed.
Being able to mentor all of these roles, and help them all advance is very important, because as a Lead, part of the big picture isn’t just to make projects a success, it’s to also create other Leads through example. Managers do it from a distance, Leads do it by direct contact.
The other thing other people have brought up here is the big picture of the project, the product or application. Leads have to have a solid understanding of both the users and the business goals of their clients, and then orchestrate that vision.
One last thing I’d like to add is protecting your team's time. I can’t remember where I read this, but if I can keep people out of meetings who are doing the actual production work I will. Especially if it’s a client that’s challenging or it’s a meeting that’s super pointless. I’m terrible at sports, but I try to be that guy that just sets other people up to score. Background player. Don’t be a glory hog. Give all the credit to your team.
My favorite is people applying for a job fresh out of college and they say “I’m an Art Director” LOL
Am I the only one that thinks the product and brand look a lot like Abstract?
Also, for those of you wondering about the need for version control for design files, yes, it's absolutely needed to scale design teams, collaborate on projects, and work with remote team members.
I implemented Abstract with my team earlier this year and it's made marked improvements in our scalability and process for creating design systems for clients.
This is way off topic, but why do you use the subdomain "www"? I mean, you're going very new school with the tiny.website TLD, but why the old school throwback? This is purely a curiosity question.
I've found that disabling Sketch's auto save functionality makes it run snappy and smooth. I also have the animated zoom feature turned off.
