Interesting point of view, but I think what we're seeing in photography also applies to any type of content in the digital space. Unless we revert back to analog methods of delivery, the nature of digital enables us to bend/distort reality.
In addition to that, the only way we can be better equipped at deciphering what's real and what's not, is really up to humanity in being responsible; but even that is faulty at its core. The only real solution I see, is if there are plugins/tools/AI that augment our perception to help counteract these "deepfakes".
yeah this site is gorgeous. It's got this Wealthsimple kind of feeling to it, but executed very well.
I totally dig the product incorporated into the navigation. It's quite clever I think!
I think showing that you've got a creative bone in you is awesome, but perhaps it would be clearer if you stated that painting is a passion of yours, like maybe how "I love knitting little sweaters for dogs, in my spare time" is a passion of mine haha
The work you're showing at the moment is a bit scattered in a sense that you've got some great work, but if you're trying to transition into UI, I would present work only that you feel that is strongly focused on Illustration and UI. For example, I personally would remove the "Department of Music", "University Commencement", "Soundscapes", "Book store coupon", "Kidtrition" and "Oil paintings" from this portfolio.
The ones I've removed appear to have less illustration focus, and thus in my view have less relevancy towards illustration or icon/logo creation (both of which are useful towards when creating UI IMO).
If you have a personal site that doesn't sit on Behance for example, you could have a separate section to display your painting work because although there's no direct relationship to UI per se, there are implications to how you observe the world beyond the surface (which is a pretty good trait to sell yourself as, as a side-benefit).

This is super cool. I'd suggest making the navigation accessible from your sub pages as well. The tutorial/about us/FAQ page just opens the page without the top navigation to make trying the product accessible (without having to click back on the browser). At that point, you might see a lot of bounce rates, when you have a nifty tool for people to use!
Additionally, if you could allow a user to feed in a CSV of their guest list to auto populate, that would be helpful too. Although I can see that you can paste entire columns directly from Excel into the interface.
On that note, should other ethnic groups have their own version of www.insertyourethnicitythatdesign.com too?
These social problems are largely shared by many other ethnicities, and building a site that is limited to only one ethnic group is divisive in nature because you're limiting it to one group of individuals only.
If black people aren't being hired because of the colour of their skin, do you think a website that focuses only on black people would help raise that awareness to non-black people that are hiring? Would a non-black person visit this site without knowing about it? If a non-black individual went to your site and hired a black person, isn't that just "checking a diversity box"? That to me doesn't really sound as though we're solving a diversity issue, it's just a "black" issue only; but in reality, there are many other issues that we grapple with together.
Frankly speaking, everyone goes through some form of prejudice, but it's up to the individual to prove otherwise. I personally don't think a website that advertises itself as a singularly inclusive community will help that much towards your cause towards the bigger picture of diversity.
