Many thanks for the kind words! We took a lesson here, spoke about it already. Will do.

This is a trash play of course :)

People break things, that's something we've learned immediately after the launch. Looks like the first thing people do is to make a dick out of a properly shaped vegetable.

    Personally, I like these:

What makes you insult the people who are not up to your professional standards?

Agree. Will do! I mean, I'm doing it already (with all my messages in this thread); will talk to some of our teams on one of the standups.

Generative photography is in its infancy. The technology is evolving like crazy though.

These appeared in the last 6 months. I publish our recent demos (people generation, removing background, swapping faces, etc.) in my facebook; I can share it here as well.

Hi, I'm the founder of Icons8. I see your problem here.

Probably, we're earning a horrible reputation here and simply must go.

Same time, I have to protect people working for this project. There are many many people who contributed to it:

    • photographers, models, MUA, stylists, postproduction

    • UX designers, a motion designer, usability testing, a graphic designer, copy

    • software engineers (frontend, backend, ML), QA

They are proud of their work, they are eager to support the project, and they need your, guys, feedback.

Probably it's not fair that large collaborations earn upvotes and comments. Same time, it's not fair to dehumanize them as a voting ring.

DesignerNews policy is good but quite vague here. Say:

    • Noone can present her own work, nor vote for it

    • A feature where you can mark the creators (like on ProductHunt)

    • Affiliations must be disclosed in the comments

    • Anybody can do anything as long as he's a live person under his real name.

    Couple questions:

    • Can we mention DesignerNews in the mailing list (we have 150k subscribers), but can't ask for upvotes?

    • Can we show a HelloBar on our website (we have 60k people a day), saying something like "Join our launch party", but not "Upvote us"?

    Fair?

Haha, maybe the second. We earn our money though (no external financing). Thank you, everybody who purchased a license!

Haha indeed. Customer development in progress. Although planned as generative photography to replace Shutterstock, we've found three unexpected usages:

    1. For the lulz: memes, all flavors of absurd, incredibly creative ways of hinting sex, etc.
    2. Disassembling the collages for masked images
    3. Using https://photos.icons8.com/creator as a lightweight photo editor, sometimes without our photos at all.

We are adding all three as a feature. Suggestions about the priorities? You're welcome here.

    1. Face swap detects the face angle
    2. Another ml-based algorithm chooses the ones that match better (please downrate the bad ones - we learn from this data)
    3. Another one removes the backgrounds (in couple weeks for the uploaded images too)

    More to come:

    • AI-assisted search

    • Generated faces: the models created by ai on the spot

    • Directional changes: make faces happier, older, more Japanese

    • Machine-composed collages

PS Thanks for the right question
