IMO it doesn't matter if client notices—it's about honing in on a process that is accurate and efficient. You might be able to draw relatively clean paths without perpendicular handles, but I can almost guarantee that the horizontal/vertical method will be faster and more consistent because you're going in with a clear plan.

Really shocked to only see one mention of Stuff You Should Know, but that was the first podcast I got into so maybe I'm biased :)

DESIGN - The Observatory - 99% Invisible - The Poster Boys - Design Matters

NON-DESIGN - Freakonomics - Stuff You Should Know - How to do Everything - Aw Jeez! - Comedy Bang Bang - Hidden Brain - Song Exploder - Reply All - Meanwhile in the Future - Limetown - The Partially Examined Life

Super nice site! This place isn't too far from me AND I'm due for an eye exam…

The text in the hero might be a little hard to read, but I think it's a really cool effect.

Yeah it's much nicer than you'd expect. Definitely noticed that the Value Village Cycle doesn't scale well and becomes illegible fast.

I'm on an older desktop right this second, so that's playing a factor. OsX 10.7.4 with Chrome 42.0.2311.135

Works on my MBP with yosemite!

IMO the most insightful part of this is the idea that designers have backed themselves into a corner with flat design. The idea that deviating from flat design can result in people interpreting the work as outdated/not current, and how this effects identity.
