I totally agree that many posts here could us more discrete naming, however I was asking about the Search functionality specifically. Allan reported back that some search terms cause an error in their application.
For me that used to manifest itself as a 500 error, now it is simply refreshing the search page and displaying no results.
These errors have been happening for me for quite some time though, so since DN is a heavily curated community I assumed the Mods had a blacklist of some sort on search terms that they did not want the community to focus on.
Allan's response convinces me otherwise though, and I hope they can get all the wrinkles ironed out.
Thanks for your response Allan, just to try to be helpful (and not piss you off any further) here are my results from searching those two terms this morning:
I am trying this on an iMac running the lastest version of vanilla Chrome.
In the past searching those two terms would redirect me to a 500 page. I do not believe that I have ever 404ed from trying to use search, though recently the error behavior has been a simple page refresh.
Again, thanks for getting back to me! Sorry if I seemed bitchy in my post.
I totally see Soylent as a good "baseline of nutrition" supplement like you are saying.
My theory on why their marketing is so awkward: their CEO. Just listen to him talk in those videos. I could see this whole push as the completion of his "vision."
I like the site! And your writing is nice to read.
One question that I hope people who are excited about Soylent will weigh in on: Why do they purposefully choose to market themselves in the creepiest manner possible?
Everything from the videos on their site to the copy screams "out of touch SV company who wants to change the world." Would this product not be perfectly suited as an "every now and then" meal replacement? Why is their whole philosophy built around people actually living off of their product?
I understand the business implications of getting consumers to subscribe to a 3-meal-a-day system, but, seriously, why make the risk of scaring away millions of potential customers by trying to assert your own personal ideal of the "future" in your marketing content?
Most people that I talk to about Soylent think it is funny, not novel. Personally I think the idea of a super-nutritious meal replacement shake is great, but not to actually live off of it. My reason? Exactly what the OP describes in his first post: "However, a good meal provides me with more pleasure than almost anything else per dollar and minute spent."
Why would a company actively market against that most basic, human pleasure?
Lol, +1 for background research.
Really though, someone should get the OP a job writing headlines for a struggling webdev blog...
A good caption of that GIF would be: I am jelly :)
That guy has some seriously amazing brushes for a good price, thanks for the tip!
P.S. Thank you for The Shape of Design, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Mr Chimero,
What are your favorite tools for physical illustration? Pens, sketchbooks, various materials of creation.
What is your favorite process for converting those physical artifacts into digital beauty? Is there a particular workflow, set of applications, devices, or methods that you personally recommend.
I ask because as a developer first, I was never formally trained in the art of digital drawing. I do love my doodles, but I wish to one day turn them into another piece of my digital arsenal.
A GIF as bait for an answer: my feelings about your design work...
