Here's a tutorial on multiple WordPress sites from DO. (Not using WordPress Multisite but actually configuring the server for multiple installations.)
I agreed with you guys at first, but thinking about it - it doesn't seem like a bad idea? You get forever free use of the framework and four days for full documentation. There's some basic docs available for everyone. This definitely beats a monthly subscription for using the framework since once you've mastered the docs, and have implemented it you don't have to pay anymore. I guess the only route that could maybe be better was a one time purchase price.
Edit - Ehh, I guess the only shitty thing about this, is when you forget that one little method and don't have access to the docs.
Can't comment on hosting but it seems others have pointed you in the right direction.
On recouping costs my vote goes towards Sponsorship. Generally companies that would want to advertise towards Designers are design savvy companies, I don't think ugly ads would be much of an issue. Plus weekly sponsorship could put a little green in your pocket for your hard work.
I just turned 20 and it's nerve wrecking to feel this "gap". I love great design and just like the video describes I feel I have good taste, but creating something that reflects my taste is like being asked to walk a tight rope. I usually don't end up with my desired results and if I do, I'll look back in due time just to see how bad it now looks to me. It's a vicious cycle that has compounded this negativity and hesitancy to doing what I enjoy. This talk is my favorite talk to date just because it has me wanting to design more than ever. Let my fears go and just dive in the deep end, with practice I'll mature.
On top of the ones Weston mentioned also check out Perch.
Just watched the updated videos, and nicely done. This is what it needed, the material is clear and the sample video shows exactly what to expect. Great job on being responsive to the questions and I wish you guys the best.
It does seem a little steep for what you get. We don't even know the depth of what they'll be covering and etc. I think a 15 - 30min sample of day one footage would help more buyers get a better idea of the content and pull the trigger if they liked. Right now it seems like a gamble.
Yup, big fan of Hover. A little more pricey than other registrars but includes free whois privacy and I don't worry about that upsell crap. Oh and if needed they'll transfer your domains from your current registrar over just ask them, pretty neat.
Agreed. I was able to get a solid answer and that is "Donations need to be with no strings attached." So my other thought was the sponsoring companies could write these costs off as advertising? There needs to be a want for companies to sponsor, a stupid easy way for non-profits getting their needs out, and a large supply of designers and developers ready to work on these projects. I really look forward to seeing where this goes.
