    I used the term asshole lightheartedly and mostly for comedic effect, though I see your point. I think perhaps I wasn't clear enough in explaining that the meaning is not that the product team or designers should actually term imperfect users as 'assholes' but rather that we should be aware that they may behave in a way that can be perceived as being "an asshole" (though theres no scientific explanation of what that actually means).

    The point is not to diminish respect for even imperfect users, rather I think in respecting the fact that some users can be a threat to other users. When it comes to deliberate malicious intent there is of course always two sides to a story and we shouldn't be too quick to judge. The sentence "if a real asshole were to get a hold of this product" is more of a hypothetical scenario than actually considering a user to be one.
