It's not meant to be a thesis on the design process. It's a small for instance on form redesign. There was clear reasoning and problem solving behind each of the choices made. Whether or not assumptions were made is immaterial.

Just an awesome example of why sometimes designing with constraints creates great stuff. We're only talking about office environs + album artwork here, but it works so well. It's memorable, fun, and by far beats a straight up list.
