Be nice. Or else.
Looking forward to this a fair bit. The state of open source font creation tooling (FontForge) is pretty darn sad.
Take a look at Xara Designer (www.xara.com/uk/products/designer). In certain ways it's actually superior to Sketch.
I had a big disclaimer at the top earlier on how it's not a rulebook, but just a few things that work for me. However, I figured we're all grown up on the Internet and don't follow random articles blindly… and removed it. Caveat emptor. Hopefully, it's useful for someone.
I absolutely agree. It's terribly easy to slip into the habit of throwing a computer at every problem. A designer's job isn't even inherently digital.
Perhaps ThoughtStreams (https://thoughtstreams.io) is closer. Regardless, best of luck.
Well, that's quite the pleasant surprise. Congrats to the team. :)
I've been following this for a few years… and it's the reason I don't have a personal UI reference collection :) factoryjoe's doing us all a huge service…
Also, you probably shouldn't miss out on the comments. They can be quite amusing. Example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/factoryjoe/8266594763/in/photostream
This piece was what made my subscription to The Manual last year worthwhile, and will probably lead to me renewing the subscription—in hope that there will be others like it. It was quite the gem.
It's quite interesting that most of the complaints on HN so far have been mild annoyances (if at all) in my case. A different audience, I guess…
