If you're referring to http://frontends.org, I saw it yesterday. And today, after seeing Telescope I sort of connected the dots.
How is Telescope? Is it easy to work with?
You're totally right. It's a bit annoying and I've noticed it myself. We hope to get it fixed soon.
We're working on that, but it's going to be a visited link color with a twist :)
Hot damn! How did I miss this?
Thank you!
We don't use this, but the only open source and used in production "framework" I know of, for link aggregation, is Lobsters https://github.com/jcs/lobsters
I'm glad you like it! Unfortunately there's no magic going on. In the future I'll maybe write a Python service to grab the apple precomposed icons, but for now it's done by hand.
For popular websites we have a json file that contains the domain names and the corresponding favicon urls. So as the list grows we have to add less and less icons.
Another thing we could do would be to replace of the default orange disk with the dominant colour of the website in question. There's a pretty long list of features we want to add :)
Thanks! We kinda like it ourselves too :)
Besides HN and DN I can think of two other websites that are somewhat similar and still do OK. Product Hunt and Sidebar.io. And maybe GrowthHackers too?
While there are front-end related news on HN and DN, I don't believe there are enough. Or enough that make it to the front page. I wanted a website that has that.
That's why my brother and I made this. And it didn't feel like hard work. We learned a lot of stuff that you can only learn by doing. So I don't think it was a waste of time or energy. Not as long as we got something out of it.
