That looks like a fantastic icon set! Even on a personal level, a single project could pay for it easily. I'll download the free 100 set to see how the feel is for editing.

These are literally the only 2 things that are slowing down my workflow in XD right now.

I'm not sure by your post if by "side-project" you mean this is your own deal and you hired the developer. If that's the case, fire now and recoup any losses and find a new one. If it's in house, have a sit down with the dev and the manager and explain why its important and how it'll bring value to the app. After all, why add if it doesn't bring any value?

You can make that day today, and start working on it yourself in your spare time. You'll probably learn a lot more in the process of creating it too!

  • Posted to Design Sprints Are Snake Oil, Mar 14, 2017

She follows up in the comments section by saying:

"The point is that the original snake oil was legitimate and effective. It ended up with a bad reputation from copycats who over-promised results under the same name while missing the essential ingredients.

Sprints are legitimate and effective. And now there is a lot of follow-up hype treating them as a panacea and a replacement for other types of work."

It sounds like something she should of put in her article to avoid any confusion or mislead with the clickbait title.

  • Posted to Ask DN: Is it just me, or are there less remote jobs for designers?, Sep 26, 2016

I think it has a lot to do with the dynamic designers bring to their work. Collaboration between people is what makes a designer produce better work. This means designers working in a team can make a better product at the end of the day. Developers tend to have a talk out session and then are told to make it work essentially. The end result is that it works or it doesn't. If you were to tell a designer to make it work, there wouldn't always be a clear cut yes/no answer to their solution. It's up for debate. It's always up for debate.

That's not to say remote is out of the question because we obviously don't talk to each other the entire day. Teams have made it work and are strong because of it. I guess its down to each company and how bad they want to be face to face with the designer on a daily basis.

  • Posted to Here’s why you’re overlooking how much VR actually matters, Sep 23, 2016

I would say that it lands on step 3. The general public understand that it's a virtual reality that you go into when you put a headset on. Other than that, not many people can find the use.

The price point is still to high to get a VR device for something that people may not be completely sold on. The starting point is $600-$800. At that starting point, unless companies have solid ideas on WHY someone needs a VR, it'll still remain something that rich people use or people that are really into tech.

The Playstation VR will most likely be the entry point to the average consumer because if all else fails, they still have a gaming / entertainment system to fall back on if they hate VR.
