People forget that to get a system running, you need people to first build it, and then continuing maintaining it. If anything, it creates more work rather than less, at least this holds true for bigger organisation.
Tackling changes and updates from multiple teams, along with communication, documentation, and releases, heck it's a teams worth of work on it's own. Smaller teams can afford to skip some steps, but the true worth is about efficiency, so designers can focus on other parts that attention is sorely needed. At some point, you'll have to split you attention and get back into greasing the system's gear.
I would pick up magic tricks. The idea of misdirection and sleight of hand is great foundation to apply it in the dark arts of design.
Designer Hangout is one the best and most active one that's still around. They even have their own forum now that's outside of slack because of the noise. Quality is high because it's still an invite-only community ;)
Throwing Sympli into the ring. Some nice touches here and there, and it plugs right into Xcode or Android Studio for mobile devs.
I've always use pngyu http://nukesaq88.github.io/Pngyu/ even though its old. It uses pngquant too. The simple UI optimises at lighting fast speed and pretty aggressive at crushing down the file size.
I felt like we seen this popped up now and again about DN turning into a cesspool of negativity/bots/self promotion/ads even before it was bought over to Andrew's team. (although it was uncommon when it was invite only).
It's an issue that people will need to learn to deal with, but you can decide on how. Just like a decent neighbourhood, you can always choose to move and relocate when things go bad, or you find ways to help the community tackle the issue.

I agree with Willem. If you position as design thinking, then you definitely have to think in the perspective of your users, the people that is looking at this = HR or hiring managers.
It's a bold move to state fail forward, but to a lot of companies, failing is an expensive exercise. That's why people don't setup to fail, but setup the best to succeed. Though, that's where you can tell whether companies are in for the long run to learn fast and improve or take slow calculated risk moving forward. Both have it's own merit, so pick the angle and be ready when someone ask you what comes with the result of failure.
Talking about writing project shows initiative, but it come across a little bullish (to me). Focus on how you can create value together and be ready for anything. Internships are meant to be a learning experience and you're there to provide that cover for the team you'll be supporting. Think like sports, you have to make bench first before making a starting player, and supporting the team is a sure fire way to go!
Think of the audience you want to appeal the most. The angle you tap on is great, but now it's just a matter of tightening your story. Your narrative should create enough tension for someone to be intrigue to find out more. Then bring that energy and personality to the table for a in-person session. Good luck Frederik!
