I've never used Grid but it seems pretty legit. I'm not sure how much control you have over design in Grid though.
Personally I design & dev WordPress themes so that's my go-to. Let me know if Grid works out.
I learned front-end by working through HTML and CSS: Design and Build Websites by Jon Ducket while working a full-time job.
In my opinion, codecademy is the best free online option and treehouse is the best paid online option. I've also heard good things about codeschool.
I disagree. I've had a portfolio site longer than I've had a dribbble profile and I've received many more work requests via dribbble. There are a lot more people viewing dribbble than personal portfolios because they are difficult to find. There's no way you're going to rank high enough on google to be found if you're just launching a personal site. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have a portfolio but I think it's better when paired with Dribbble or Behance account.
