Left's sandwich-slicing technique perturbs me as well.

Some very good points are raised (especially in regards to addressing the reason one would use low-contrast text to begin with, and some alternative ideas), however I would also love to see some examples of contrast done well (similar to what Contrast Rebellion does to a small extent).

Does anyone have any particularly good sites that come to mind? Designer News itself does quite a good job, I think.
