Correct, but we didn't realise how many people were using this 'bug' that we fixed. Might have to revert the behaviour. Sorry
It's a feature not a bug'd!
I liked this bit from a Fast Company piece a couple of years ago: https://www.fastcodesign.com/3030923/4-myths-about-apple-design-from-an-ex-apple-designer
“It’s actually the engineering culture, and the way the organization is structured to appreciate and support design. Everybody there is thinking about UX and design, not just the designers. And that’s what makes everything about the product so much better . . . much more than any individual designer or design team.”
I expected the email capture area to be more prominent (I wanted to see a sample video). I always ignore welcome videos, so I'd expect the placement to be switched (or visual hierarchy adjusted via some other means).
I didn't watch the video, but I scrubbed through it and only saw a talking head. I was hoping to see examples of things I would create through the tutorial.
Hope that's useful. Congrats launching the course, I know it's a ton of work!
Hijack: What about designer to engineer to PM?
Agreed. It can be a really rewarding experience, but it's not the optimal way to begin a career. If you have a choice between offers, I would recommend going with the established team first, and getting at least a couple of years of experience before trying a "team of one" gig.
It looks like there is no way to prevent your email going to their servers, unless you set up a dev environment locally and run the sync engine yourself. So the only way they are offering an email client for zero cost is if you have the know-how to set that up.
Nice. Helping the industry see the value of design is a lofty goal, but it certainly sounds like you're up to the task! Best of luck to you and thanks for doing the AMA.
I'm interested in hearing more about what you're doing at InVision. "Design Education" is a pretty broad category (and I'm sure that is on purpose :) ). Does your role consist of doing content marketing, acting as a consultant for InVision's clients, or something else? Will you be helping the product itself encourage best practices somehow?
We would have to have our transactional emails built on-the-fly so that it could pull in user data from our back end after the user takes an action (ie., post a comment). Would that be possible with the stack?
Yep. The silver lining is that it's more accurate for mobile (since iOS and Android do not do subpixel antialiasing, see https://bjango.com/articles/subpixeltext/) and retina desktop displays. Of course, this was always an option before.
I think on the whole, with all of the line-height improvements text rendering in Sketch is more accurate than it has ever been.
