Neither do I understand your feelings here, or your lack of understanding. A difference in opinion doesn't need to load itself with unnecessary aggression and ignorance. I suppose 'self reflection' is term that hit a nerve somewhere. Perhaps it's an opportunity to start figuring out why reflecting on your career is a problematic exercise to begin with. I suppose that's blunt enough?

Should I also assume you never bothered reading the article and decided to jump in and comment on the one sentence that you connected with in this thread?

Sorry you feel that way. But the research has proven otherwise. It's an exercise that holds a lot of merit. But as mentioned in the playbook, the employee is free to choose how and if they would like to fill up such a document. It isn't a form and neither is it mandatory. It's just a tool to help employees keep a track of their own personal growth. This is specifically for quarterly one-on-ones and not for your weekly or bi-weekly check-ins.

Also your comment is unnecessarily aggressive.

It's not necessary, but it's definitely good for you to understand the basics of it, just so that you can collaborate better with programmers. It's important to understand their piece of the puzzle too. Focus on design though and read up about new programming languages just so you know what's going on. :)

    Good luck!

Thanks for sharing that. I did check around a little bit but the GDPR unfortunately also requires a consent banner even if you use Google Analytics, which I am. :( And that's something I would like to still have, else I would have no visibility on what's going on on my website. So although I'm not collecting any cookies for advertising or marketing it seems like I can't escape that banner :(

Hey Dan! Thanks for your kind words, and thank you for asking.

When it comes to employee engagement, I think it's even more relevant today since a lot of people are working from home, and it's going to get even harder to communicate what you want to work with without having that sort of face-time and conversations that we have been used to. It was bad enough not knowing when a new face walked into a room, and we were unsure if they were new employee or just a client. Heh. Imagine seeing a new face on a huge zoom call :D

With regards to the collaboration/learning space, that is in fact one of our use cases as well. We are already working with a few universities and schools to help a diverse set of people map their skills to form skills-based project teams. We've also seen a few digital meetups and hackathons find value in this.

But at the end of it all, it will boil down to what creates business value for us to keep pushing this idea forward. We have some ideas, so we'll keep moving forward.

I've been working with design and tech consulting for many years now during which I developed the thought behind visualizing skills to create transparency.

You need it to notify even if you aren't collecting cookies, since it's required even for any form of site analytics as well and even more so if you want to keep your users logged in to the platform, just like DN.

I found one solution called https://www.iubenda.com/en/ which I'm going to try. If it's worth it, I might SHOW it on DN for everyone.
