If only one single customer were enough to support an entire product team...
So Instagram is planting a flag at 15 seconds and 1 second, while Vine is firm at 6 seconds. Who's going to make a play for 10 seconds? What about 3 seconds? :o
Thanks, Miguel! That's a great idea, and in all honesty, the only reason I don't have a demo is that I've been spending all my development time on the product itself! In the next couple weeks, I'd like to create a demo account with placeholder photos that potential users can mess around with to get an idea for how easy it is to customize a landing page. (It's really easy.)
Thanks Tom! If you have a minute, I'd be curious to hear more about what you think I could do to improve my "glanceability". :) In talking with some other folks, the combination of the brief headline followed by the screenshots and short paragraphs of intro text seemed to offer an understanding of that the product does. Anything particularly confusing, or any keywords or phrases I should mention sooner?
I'm iffy about that font. Can’t tell if I'll end up loving it in a week, or if it'll drive me insane.
(I'll give the Basecamp crew the benefit of the doubt. They probably tried a lot of options.)
Hey everyone! I’m Sam, the guy making Crowfly. If you skipped the link and came straight here, I’ll give you the elevator pitch: Crowfly helps you create a landing page from your Instagram photos, so your followers and customers can find the products you’re sharing more easily.
I started building this while doing some social media stuff at Cotton Bureau. We were posting a new shirt every day and tried updating our profile URL for each one, but then people couldn’t find our older stuff. None the existing solutions to the “make it easier to find products shared on Instagram” problem were right for us; specifically, most of them are absurdly, prohibitively expensive for anyone besides very large companies. So, I built my own, priced to be affordable enough for small businesses and solo folks trying to make a living off their work.
I’m rolling this out over the next week or so, but before I start yelling loud about it I want to hear from you all. I’m not a full-time designer—making the site look half-decent has taken more time than I’d care to admit—so any thoughts or suggestions will be very, very helpful.
So, what do you think?
"So it turns out the algorithm actually divides likes with views..."
Actually, it's a bit more complex than that. :)
What an incredible article. I felt a little bit physically sick after reading this, because it reminded me of how I felt about the mobile future 10 years ago and then I realized how badly Apple, Google, and Microsoft have totally fucked it up. Some choice quotes:
"If you deleted an app within 24 hours you weren’t billed for it."
"$19.95 per month on top of whatever voice plan you had with your carrier. It was cheap and easy to understand. No haggling, no deciding which data cap to choose. "
"If your app was rejected, it wouldn’t be a mystery as to why because we provided you with a multi-hundred item checklist of all of the tests we’d be performing."
Where did we go wrong?
Director's Commentary: I was actually going to make it look nice, but real work got in the way. Enjoy the quaint folk-art version while it lasts, hoping to replace it with something reasonable soon.
