There is CosmicJS which is in private beta. It's slightly less expensive than Contentful and offers all of the same features (I have evaluated both). The UI could be cleaner, but I think this is true for Contentful as well. I do think that in an agency environment, Contentful would be the better option simply because it's more battle-tested in production, but for individual or small projects, CosmicJS suits fine. If you're using this for a statically rendered site, or a static/SPA hybrid, then you also have the option of hosting your site on Netlify and using netlify-cms., though this is still somewhat experimental.

  • Posted to Ask DN: What time-tracking software do you use?, Aug 13, 2015

For personal use, I use a combination of RescueTime and WakaTime. For office use, we use Harvest - however, I find something like Team Snippets to be far more valuable than team time tracking in the long run for team productivity reasons. It helps everyone better understand who's working on what, why, when, what they're stuck with, etc. I don't agree with fixed hourly billing. It's a simpleton's measurement tool. No one project is the same, the needs, vision and solutions always differ.

The closest thing I can think of is https://schema.org/docs/gs.html - but that doesn't constitute CSS classes...

  • Posted to Ask DN: What banking sites do you think have good UX design? , Jan 22, 2015

    First National Bank: https://fnb.co.za

The design is a little whack, and it does have a few UX "don't"s littered around here and there, but for the most part, it's functional to the simplest degree once you've used it a little bit. Their app is also great.

This bank's UX principles might not beat banks in the global market, but they're leading the UX & innovation terms in South Africa.

Customer service is also great, I once had an annoying friend with me when requesting a new card who kept mouthing off obscenities in a lame attempt to "troll" me, and the bank teller very kindly offered to slap him around a bit for me. I politely declined, but the thought counts. :D

I really like it. I might use this actually. But please add a "clear all" button.

  • Posted to Which Interface looks nicer? A or B?, Nov 20, 2014

Mostly A, a little bit about B. I have some criticisms and think a compromise would be better. The opaque navigation bar on B would look good on A. The background image on A is a little bit too distracting, but it does add a special touch to the design as a whole. I think making the background image a little more blurry might do the design some justice. Lowering the quality of the image and giving it a gaussian blur will also lower the HTTP overhead of downloading the image. Also, the sidebars on B are more awesome than the ones on A. I like the visual cues. The green buttons could do with some more margin and padding.

I've not worked for an exclusively distributed team before, so take my comments here with a pinch of salt, but I'm certain tools like Slack and LayerVault might be suited perfectly for this.
