I hate to be another critic, but I have been so frustrated with the Spotify design and product development (or lack of it) that seeing one more thing they have been working on that isn't the product is just a frustrating experience as a paying user.

Can anyone here name a new feature Spotify has added in the last year? I can think of more they have removed. What about the official community feature request list on the Spotify forums? Most, including basic OS integration like Siri Shortcuts we have been told won't be happening soon, without any reason or alternative despite these being some of the most requested features.

The mobile app was redesigned recently in a not terrible but frankly lazy way with little refinement to aesthetics and absolutely no significant new features.

So we get a blog with articles about refining the icons and doing research? That's what the Spotify Design team has been working on? I'm sure there are very talented designers and product people at Spotify, so what is going on over there?

Look at any Spotify community forum, both official and not, and you constantly see people asking Spotify why they aren't adding new features that we have been requesting for years. Numerous friends have switched to Apple Music since Spotify has declared they won't work on Siri Shortcut integration, and others have switched to GPM for better handling of their personally owned music.

I want to keep giving you money Spotify, but I'm running out of reasons not to just give that money to Apple. Give me more of a reason to stay than a blog that advertises nothing new or interesting for the service, or is all that different in look or content from any company's design blog.

Sometimes I think about what our music players could be if they were actually designed like modern apps.

    • Tags instead of playlists and folders.
    • Personal listening analytics on your profile instead of some stupid end-of-year playlist.
    • Actual heavy rotation on your profile instead of just the last few things you listened to.
    • Integration with OS native features like Siri Shortcuts.

I could go on and on.

I deleted my facebook account so for the past 9 months my spotify username has been 125871441. There is no way to change this. It's pretty weak.

Lol I'm in the exact same boat. Was told my Spotify that the only way to change my username is to delete my account (and lose my library) then create a new one.

Yeah, or changing your email address if you don’t want to login with facebook anymore.

Spotify's design has stagnated for years and the iOS app is constantly adding/removing features, changing the locations of commonly accessed views, and adding stuff that NO ONE asked for like their own custom QR codes...

The queue model still drives me crazy. https://medium.com/@bryanjclark/rdio-you-ll-be-missed-4322d2e7fbc4

I find this ironic, because nowhere in this article is there mention of why that title is so click-baity, and to boot, I’ve often used Spotify as an example of a product that clearly builds different clients with different teams, and none of them appear to leverage the same UI principles. All feel like they are communicating with different voices.

Not sure why you are getting downvoted, people have gotten so sensitive about any kind of critique these days and Spotify is deserving of criticism.

Unless you say something complimentary about whatever is posted you'll get 3 or 4 downvotes. DN life.
