React course focused on Framer X?

3 years ago from , Founder at jimu Labs

Update: The course is launched: https://learnreact.design/framerx-react

Hey DN,

Since there are a number of people asking me about this, let me try to get the feedback from the community openly.

Would you like a React course that's specifically focused on Framer X? It would be different from courses that teach web or mobile development with React. Everything would be taught in Framer X and what you'd build would be prototypes/animations/interactions/components for Framer X. It wouldn't include anything that's irrelevant to making a prototype such as Redux, React Router.

How does that sound? Would you want to learn ES6 as well? JavaScript and programming basics?

Upvote if you want this course, or comment if you like. I'd appreciate your feedback!

If you want to get an update from me about the course, sign up here.

BTW: Have you checked out my pure speculation about Framer X? :)

Thanks in advance! Linton

The question is why? why not just learn react?

This sounds excellent, especially for designers (me) who are a bit rusty on all things code. It felt futile to dedicate much investment in coffeescript.

I agree with this. As a designer, I would be interested in an alternate route into familiarity with React.

    Hey Linton,

I think it does make sense to have such course focused on Framer X, especially since React is so huge that it can be hard to start for some non-technical designers. I personally would take the course if it's properly focused on what we do day-to-day and how it can improve the communication between design and dev :)

Zach Johnston (Design Systems @ Dropbox) is posting a bunch about this right now on Twitter, some helpful links:

Also sounds like he's planning to make a site with resources for learning react:

I also found Wes Bos's course personally helpful :)

oh hi! Haven't made much progress on reactfordesigners.com since I'm focused on hosting an internal React workshop next week for Dropbox designers. Hope to publish something late next week. :)

I would love a course on React for Framer X, as well as JavaScript ES+ basics

Anyone like the course from Treehouse? https://teamtreehouse.com/tracks/learn-react

I wouldn't be worried about Framer X yet. Saw it and the early access didn't even have a code editor inside the app.

I'm rather watching InVision, which seem to move smarter :D

I attended one of their meetups and got to see a sneak peek at the new Framer X. while im sure a lot is in flux, knowing React could be useful. that being said I would caution producing anything until you see how they're using React, I think you'll be very surprised, i know i was.

I have been trying to do some basic tutorials for React via code academy, because of the Framer X announcement. It would be glad to see a more in-depth course for Framer X
