TL;DR: Feedback is not a literal gift like the kinds you get a few times a year.
Personally I've heard the expression that feedback is a gift, but I would imagine it's meant in the abstract sense that you should be thankful and accepting of it, not the literal sense that the article suggests.
"LeBron sure is gifted!"
"What do you mean? He's not wrapped and tied with a bow!"
