If it's a job that I really want I tend to not care about how complex the application is. I've known of companies that add in oddly complex or random aspects to the application to help weed out people that are just blasting out their resume everywhere to really highlight to the "quality" people that took the time to fill things out correctly.
I've abandoned an application that was too complex and bureaucratic. I figured an employer that made applicants jump through that many hoops just to get an interview wasn't likely to be an enjoyable place to work.
