Vero true Social

over 5 years ago from , Product designer

I Would like to introduce you to Vero!

watch this video to understand more about us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdJ-wl0l-Hk&t=1s

Vero is a social network for anyone who loves anything enough to share it – and wants control over who they share it with. Just like we do in real life. We're already the platform of choice for a whole bunch of incredible artists and brands, creating unique and original content just for us. Every post is a little world of its own. Tap to buy stuff, play music tracks, watch trailers and go deeper

Everything’s not for everyone, so we’ve made picking your audience completely intuitive for each post.

Every post is a little world of its own. Tap to buy stuff, play music tracks, watch trailers and go deeper. Whether you tell the world, a select few or file away for future reference, the opinions of you and your friends are always going to beat any algorithm. There are no ads on Vero – just the posts you want to see. That also means there’s no algorithms and no data mining. Ever.

You can download vero here www.vero.co

thanks for your feedback, and don't hesitate to ask questions!

Looks pretty nice! I need to try that for sure, but after seeing the video there is one question still in mind, how do you make money ?

My guess it's affiliate marketing. So they get paid when users buy stuff via the app like music or movies. It's not technically advertising, but it's pretty much the same.

edit: Affiliate marketing usually requires some pretty intense tracking...kinda BS they said their app has no algorithms...There's nothing wrong with collecting data about what your users do in your applications, what you do with that data is what's important.

        Hi Alex,

The first million users will have access to Vero free for life and that new users after that will pay a small yearly fee.

Since we’re not doing advertising we’re not manipulating the feed with algorithms in any way and so our feed is chronological. This means that all posts reach all followers without the need to boost them.

With our Buy Now feature, Pre-Approved profiles on Vero can sell product directly to their own followers which doesn’t need advertising.

Our goal is to build a different kind of network from the ground up. One that focuses on the user experience and has our users be our customers rather than future advertisers.

Hope that answers some questions or doubts.

Awesome work (that video is amazing).

If you don't mind me asking:

How is Vero different than [Path](path.com) which took basically the same approach on sharing (music, books, tv, etc)?

I think we can say that we allow people to follow next gen super stars in all kind of activity ( art, movie, book ...) .. you also can have 3 different profile regarding who you are speaking with that is pretty unique. There is no data mining neither add or paying options. So you can follow everyone and just put him in the right place .. in path it's most oriented to friend .. i can post a picture of my kids with an avatar with my daughters to my closest friends and one second after send my resume to my acquaintances ...

How do you guys accommodate @mentions? I saw that in some posts it's possible to comment or reply others where the app automatically adds a @FullName in front of the message. But then I also checked many users have only a first name so @Maria, in which case there are a lot of @Maria users (after quick searching users). How do you target reply comments this way?

Is there an username system or the @Name is purely representational where it links to the user_id instead in the back-end?

    Thanks

Just some thoughts. Nothing too strong or too negative

I really love the intention and mission of the product. It's really hard to stand out among big social networks, and it's nice that people go back to the problem of social networks and see how can they solve better.

I installed the app, and the onboarding / First experience was pretty sweet. Good content in few mins and I just have to follow few people.

    Coming to the feedback,

I don't think this visual design is the right direction. For some reason, the colour palette and extensive use of blur kinda made the entire experience busy for me. This also makes me feel that you guys started building this product 3-4 years back and might have just launched now. This has iOS 7/8 design all over it, in a bit intensive way. The app uses blur not to create depth but used as an aesthetic decision. Which is fine, but it's just not for me I guess. This also reminds me of 2015 Flickr iOS app. Did you guys conduct a test with just white/different colour palette and see how user find it?

In terms of content consumption/creation, it's similar to Facebook/twitter/Instagram/Tumblr with focus on photos. I mean it's good that it's similar because people don't have to learn to use your product, but is it too similar that there might not be any good value proposition for using your product?

Hey Suganth thanks for your feedback! We always appreciate it.

We really wanted the app to be driven by the content and stay away from framing things in white. This keeps the app fresh and doesn't become stale.

As you say, using a new app and creating content needs to feel familiar. So it's great to hear that you feel we achieved that. When it comes to posting though, we feel that our unique audience selector allows you to share things with your more intimate circles that you otherwise wouldn't when faced with a larger audience makes this online social experience closer to the social interactions we have in the real world.

Music posts come to life if you have an Apple Music subscription as you're then able to listen to the whole song and even add it to your library without having to leave the app.

And with Collections, you gain instant access to everything ever shared with you so you can discover a great restaurant or book a friend had recommended that you may have missed.

Brands are even able to sell directly to their followers using our unique Buy Now feature. Check out Oliver Spencer for example who has many of their items available to sell. As well as StarRo who has a vinyl of his Grammy nominated album available to purchase right within the app.

As you can see there's a lot you can do with Vero. But we wanted to keep the design simple while allowing users to dicover so much more if they want.
