Hi all! I'm the person who made this teardown. If you have any comments or questions, I will be watching this thread pretty closely today. :)
Frankly, after dozens of onboarding walkthroughs, they feel the samey, but your articles and podcast appearances are amazing. Thank you for what you are doing!
I hear you on that, for sure. I wish there were more interesting things happening in this space to comment on -- hopefully product teams will step up their game sometime soon!
Dig your work, always get a laugh (and learn something too
I feel like I've learned more from this than most design articles and it was hilarous too. Well done
Thank you for saying so, Katie!
Very sharp, very well spoken. Agree 100% on the background images of the swiping portion. They don't add much, if anything, and it just seems like a waste of onboarding education.
Thanks for the kind words!
No comment on the weird signup form behavior? The first field is labeled "First name" but on focus it switches to "Legal first name"... that's a little funky.
This was a fantastic breakdown as always though, learned a lot!
There were a couple other weird elements with that form, but I didn't want to get into the weeds with "general usability" and keep it more focused on onboarding-specific qualities, instead. Fair point, though, for sure!
@Robert Thank you for sharing this!
No problem Samuel, always a pleasure.
Just found out the site. Has some very interesting insights. Thanks for sharing!
Always enjoy these. Been an OG reader. I'll be writing you that hand written letter.
