Havent listened to the podcast yet however I spending more time producing assets doesn't exactly mean you are more productive. When I was younger and less experienced I feel like I would spend more time executing than thinking and planning. These days I attended many more meetings and spend a lot more time researching and thinking compared to actually executing and pidijh pixels bit my overall output and quality continues to increase
We agree with you! In the podcast we mention that this is where a lot of great design actually happens but if were not careful they can be a waste of time. We felt like the topic just doesnt get enough attention in the design space and its so important.
Small team. Hardly any meetings. 2 hours a week?
Its definitely a trait of larger companies but I had my fair share when I worked in status.
2 hrs a week is nice! Hopefully youre still brainstorming and talking about your designs?
Not as much as I should. But unfortunately it's not all up to me.
Team downsized from 6 (5 developers) down to 2. One of them is a developer/support/admin and I'm doing branding/ui/front-end.
Tough gig since we're maintaining a bunch of large legacy apps, spread over several code bases (plain php, cakephp, laravel, wordpress) built over the span of 15 years. Whilst developing new stuff on the side and attempting to tie as much of it together as possible. (Most of these run off the same database.)
This is actually a large part of the challenge, tying it all together with minimal resources, whilst getting everyone on board with decisions made.
Having said that, I do miss working with a larger group of people ;)
I feel you there. Working solo (as far as design goes) is really difficult. We do our best work when we can brainstorm with others. I'd encourage you to try and get the others at your work involved in that process. Anyone can help go broad on the problem and solutions, then the design can take it from there.
