How do you manage copy in your products?

over 1 year ago from , Product Designer at Stuart

Hi guys,

At the company I work at, we're trying to unify everything from UI to copy and we're struggling a little bit to keep the copy updated and synced through different teams.

How do you guys manage different languages and copy updated?

Thanks :D

We have an in-house built content management tool that allows us to input the copy in English, and then it can be translated into various languages by translators in our other offices. We use the country-specific domain to decide which language to show the page in. I think It's setup to handle about 10-15 languages right now.

We are increasing the usage of [GatherContent] (https:// gathercontent.com) across a lot of our projects. We set up bi-lingual templates with character-restricted fields that work with the designs.

A simple workflow sees the content evolve from draft -> editing -> approval -> published/live. More complex workflows are developed if and when required. At certain times of the year we roll back the content to draft status for update and review.

In my studio, we write down all the copy in a google document that we share across teams and also with the cllient. This also prevents the client from asking us to change the copy directly on the design (the .psp screenshots that we provide for their review). When they want changes of copy, we make them in the google doc, and then once the design is approved, we add the final copy to the final design.

We have dedicated copywriters who come in during the wireframe to hi-fi design phase to decide the final copy.
