Seconded. Also, now Heroku does (free) automatic renewal of SSL certificates.
If you are using dokku, you can use dokku-letsencrypt.
This. And it's free.
This is a roundabout answer, but I highly recommend Cloudflare. It does a lot more than provide SSL, but it's stuff you should probably be doing anyway, and you can get SSL at no cost.
I second this, we put all of our sites behind Cloudflare and use https by default on everything.
I couldn't agree more. I use CloudFlare and have never had an issue with SSL.
*Except for when Cloudflare leaked that encrypted data across the web.
+1 for Cloudflare
Have you looked at Let's Encrypt?
As long as you own your domain name, you can use Let’s Encrypt to obtain a trusted certificate at zero cost.
It is backed and sponsored by most of the major web organizations (Mozilla, Facebook, EFF, Chrome, and more).
Plus the website is easy to navigate, has good legibility, decent typographic hierarchy, and doesn't have any scroll jacking. That's a win in my book.
Obligatory link to my tutorial on setting it up :) https://assortment.io/posts/installing-free-ssl-certificates-with-lets-encrypt
Worth noting Let's Encrypt will not work on Windows XP IE8
Great tutorial, well written!
Thanks Markus!
Is there any reason to get a SSL certificate for a portfolio site? I know google will put an "unsecured" and a little unlocked lock icon next to the URL in the browser, but will it actually effect my site in anyway? No one is putting any personal information on my site except for filling out a contact form.
Best practice is to put an SSL on every website.
Cool, thank you :)
Even if you think all the usual security/privacy benefits of HTTPS don't apply to your portfolio site, there's also this: having HTTPS will prevent unscrupulous ISPs from injecting ads into your site's pages.
Search engines have also started ranking sites higher with HTTPS
There is noticeably a bundle to know about this. I assume you made certain nice points in features also. There is noticeably a bundle to know about this. I assume you made certain nice points in features also.

The best I could find https://www.cheapsslshop.com/
They got user friendly design and have good discounts on SSLs - I purchased Comodo cert at $4.95 per annum on three year purchase. Their support showed good temperament on perplexed moment of installation.
+1 for https://www.ssl2buy.com
Best pricing and greate customer service.
I have used SSLs.com to purchase certificates in the past, they have pretty much the lowest prices for commercial certificates. ( starting $4.99 )
Coupon codes give you upto 50% off.
I've been using this service for my site, only $7.99/year for their basic SSL: http://www.starfieldtech.com/
Speaking from experience, figuring out this one was pain in the ass.
From what I've read, Let's Encrypt gives you certificate for 3 months, then you have to reset it, but I might be wrong.
If you would also like to manage domains [DNSimple](dnsimple.com) is the way to go. They are quite costly for domain transfers and renewals (SSLs are cheap). But if you struggle with implementing the SSL theirs 1 click install solution is well worth the money. And by far the best solution if you manage multiple domains and SSLs.
Try https://comodosslstore.com. Affordable price, 24x7 customer support, money back policy, Variety of SSL, Knowledge-base.
Agree, in our search platform Bubblehunt we using Letsencrypt and haven't problem
