Help! Advice please - would you leave your email on this site?

almost 4 years ago from

Hey guys, I'm trying to gather the response for my idea for a new startup, http://eternize.co.

Problem is, I don't have much knowledge/skill customizing Wordpress themes so I had to use the only signup theme I could find. Do you think it's acceptable or should I try to learn and come up with a customized theme?

As for the current theme, I can change the page background image and the content + font of the email box. That's about it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :-) Thanks!

P/S: No, I'm not fishing for emails, so it's fine if you aren't interested - there's no need to fill yours in!

P/P/S: Please be kind, it's my first site and "design" :(

    From a purely UX perspective:

    • The box on the right has some remarkably small copy, compared to the nice, readable, big font on the left
    • The wording made me struggle to find out what the service was
    • Since you're talking about memories, maybe it'd pay off to have people in the photos. Or at least in some of them.

To fix them, I'd bump up the sizes of the fonts in the box, and highlight (colour, underline, bold, whatever) the words "photo prints", or dropping the word "photo" entirely.

Alternatively, I'd go with "Eternize your memories through 8 prints per month... free of charge." Or something similar.

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed feedback! Seems like I should definitely consider doing a custom theme. :)

Hey, all good! It doesn't look bad or anything, just a couple of tweaks that could help ya.

Remember - design is about getting a message across. "Looking good" is secondary.

FYI: I'm browsing on an iPad, and some of the text in your background image gets hidden behind the white form box. Maybe move the text in the background image off center?

I have quite large screen, so without knowing that there's an email box, I would have missed it. I would try to place it below the "content", making it more to the flow. Also the design of the box feels "external", almost like an advertisement.

As Dirk mentioned, I think the different sized copy is a little odd, as well as the fact that there are multiple different font styles going on.

Ah, okay. I wanted to use the font I used for the logo, but the theme didn't let me customize it :( I'll pick a common one for all of them. Thanks for the tip!
