I'm helping build a Sketch collaborative plugin (www.picnic.design) and we're trying to figure out the average Sketch file size to help benchmark performance. So what type of stuff are you all designing and how big are your files?
Mine are around 150mb because I have a bunch of web projects that have large hero images. The range is quite big though, I have one that is over a 1GB but most are under 100mb.
Ditto on this one.
My biggest is 24MB. Lots of pages, experiments, symbols, a couple heroes.
Currently, I've got about 80 iOS screens in a sketch file and it's ranged anywhere from 40mb to 120mb.
Anywhere over the 100mb mark, I really notice performance issues. Now when I start a new project, I organize sketch files by feature and use craft library to sync assets. Been pretty efficient so far!
New projects (various iOS Apps only) - 30-40 MB
Snupps iOS App - around 200 MB, Snupps Android App - around 100 MB, Snupps Web App - around 100 MB.
Snupps Sketch files have up to 100 pages and hundreds of artboards. :)
Taking in account that I'm not using oversized images (only the max size I need) and compress any rasters before putting them in Sketch.
Hope that helps! :)
up to 100mb, depends on the project. Almost never more than this.
Are you all just keeping these hosted on your computer or putting them into some kind of cloud?
Ranging from 6mb - 13mb
Let me preface this by saying you guys do an awesome job. :)
My files are between 30 to 80mb, but I'm pretty organised. ;-)
I'm designing a large enterprise application for desktop and tablet. Current file size is 51.7mb. Other mobile applications I've designed have typically been smaller file sizes though.
I work on mostly mobile designs for a large enterprise application on iOS and Android. My average .Sketch file size is 17.2mb.
The biggest obvious difference between smaller and larger files were bitmaps, and my projects don't typically use many of them. Not sure if it matters, but each file is broken up based on a feature, and specific flows or iterations broken up into pages. I also use an artboard for every screen.
Awesome, thanks for the input!
I do it the same way :) And the average file size is about the same as well here haha...
but as others already mentioned: bitmaps. As soon as you drop some images in (if it's as an applied style or inline doesn't seem to make any difference) sketch probably stores right within the file which heavily bloats the file size...
@sketch: feature request :D Can we have separate assets folder where images, icons and stuff can be linked to and updated? (:
My advice would be to use tools like pngyu, imageoptim and jpegmini on your images before putting them into your sketch file ;)
