Seriously. Why do we need these spammy, listicley, fluffy, useless 2017 design trend articles? Can someone explain the purpose of these types of trend articles for web design? Shouldn't we focus on sharing core design knowledge or hard earned information that helps us all become better designers rather than these lists of how to "me too" your way to the top of Dribbble? Some of the information has some value but the presentation as a trend weakens the necessity of the meticulously selected dot point to a passing fad.
More articles --> More article views --> More users/ad views --> More fame and money
I think the sole purpose of trend articles is getting page views.
One word: Fear of missing out. Ok, thats four words but the point is that we are afraid of being left behind, that we want to stay ahead. A main driver for a of designers is to make pretty things and those lists is an easy way to get a sense of what is considered to be pretty at the moment.
