How is this better than using current social networks like LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter as a replacement for business cards, or just straight up adding someone's info to your contacts?

I have tried other kinds of apps like this (Clique designed by Focus Labs as an example), but no one was on the app, so you would have to tell them to join so you can share info. In my experience, people aren't apt to join yet another social network, just so you can share contact information.

How are you going to get people to buy in, and use this thing? What makes this app better than my other options?

Ha, first thing that came to mind when we started working on it! I used to use Apple's Ping like crazy (I may well have been the only one...)

    That is very purple.

Seems like a decent idea on the face of it though.

I like business cards... especially when I can take notes on the blank back of one
