For those who have never worked for one of the many, many, lesser-organised companies out there... for us it looks more like this:
THE MAKING OF:
- Marketing writes a brief brief (hah) which consists mainly of bullet points
- External agency creates an animation to the best of their abilities
- 20x "no we want this different" back-and-forths
Heavy quotes around that last one, and no designer was ever involved.
Believe it - it happens! :)
"Hey make the logo bigger."
You forgot the step where the creative director tries to make the project "clever" instead of actually thinking through the story.
