This past week has been disheartening for many of us. I think it's important to remember that what drives hatred is the fear of what's unfamiliar and unknown. A little while ago, I open-sourced a JavaScript plugin that helped educate people on how to say difficult to pronounce names (like mine!). Today, I'm launching a free web tool built on that plugin that allows you to more easily record your name, store, and add the name pronunciation to your website. The world's a big place with many different cultures, traditions, and dogmas–but, hopefully, we can all make some effort to close these gaps, even if it's in small ways like showing people how to pronounce diverse names.

Good job on the site, it looks very well done. Just my .02: it'd be pretty nice to see an example of the actual widget on the home page just to see how it works.

Maybe integrating it into the logo at the top would be kind of cool

Thanks, Gavin! Yeah, I've been meaning to put it into the logo. I'll definitely do that along w/ an example. Appreciate the feedback :)

Really excited about this! However, I am having trouble uploading an audio file. It keeps telling me my .mp3 is coming from a 'fakepath' but offers no support for how to fix that.

    Here is what it says:

Error: An error occurred: undefined C:\fakepath\mylastname.mp3

    Any ideas?

Thanks! Sorry about that, Kyle. Yeah, the upload experience needs more love. My guess is that the audio file your uploading is longer than 5 seconds? I need to add more clarification in the UI. What stopped you from recording via the UI?

The file is 1 second long so the length shouldn't be the issue. I would rather have someone other than my voice to pronounce my name so I just used a text to speech site for the audio. I have no issue with your ui for recording, just prefer the pronunciation this way. Hopefully this uploading issue can get fixed so I can use your product!

I was thinking about making something like this for my personal site. Thanks for releasing this free and openly. My name is commonly pronounced as "Bload" rather than the preferred "Blodee" (my last name is Blode).

Fun fact: Blod means stupid or dimwitted in German...

Useful. It would be great if old recordings can be accessed and edited. Embedding same recording on other sites for example.

Old recordings? I was thinking of adding a search feature where a user could search names/recordings across all users, then you could even use other people's recording if you wanted to.

Oh I see, there is a history of recorded names but there's no history of uploaded recordings. I just tried to upload mp3 and got this error: 'Error: An error occurred: undefined'. Hope that helps.
