Designers: Don't take yourselves so seriously.

While this is cringe-worthy for us, I take it his site is geared at selling his "creative thought leader" persona to non-creative types in fly over country....who, let's be honest, will probably eat this up.

Before bashing, I'd love to hear how well this site is converting for him. If I had to guess, it's being pretty well received. This is the type of thing that gets you a cushy 250k creative director gig at a bank in Memphis where you can buy a 10-room mansion for the cost of a studio in SF.

Maybe we should be taking ourselves more seriously?

Just curious. Are you saying that "meaning > money" isn't true as he claims in this case? We should take ourselves more seriously so we can make more dime?

I'm not saying anything about meaning/money.

I'm just saying, before we make fun of this dude, consider who the target for his site might be and judge it through that lens.

I think you're right. For his target audience, his image is probably right on the money. Judging from his clients, what he's doing is working.

As someone who hates the “magical designer” trope, though, I see this as just perpetuating the stereotype.

The only real question is: is it that cold in his house that he'd wear a sports jacket and a cap?

I watched this right after watching Westworld, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was watching some kind of highly advanced android created to be the Perfect Designer…

How does one manage to get their work published "in" Nike?

This is the reason, why I hesitate to call myself designer nowadays.

His work is actually visually pleasing. Nothing inspiring but good work over all.
