Ask DN: What's your top 3 apps for best UI?

almost 3 years ago from , UI Designer

Hi all, I'm a product designer (mostly iOS) & while I'm trying to set a folder on my iphone with the apps with incredible user interfaces, I was wondering what are your top apps regarding UI (not concepts, released apps).

Mine: Uber Eats, Hyper, Moleskine Timepage.

    Lifesum, Nike+ RunClub, Munchery.

    Maybe not really "top 3", but I really enjoy how they follow the trends but not become similar to other apps.

    And I always take another look at AirBnb when I start designing a new app.

    As a Dev myself:

    Starbucks, Apple Maps (iOS 10), Apple Music (iOS 10)

    Starbucks 'gets' how to make an app for their customers. Most importantly in Navigation. Notice how the main nav. of their app is ALWAYS present, the great typography, the 'what song is this' feature that understands people, and the incredible imagery. It's like an old magazine from back when people cared with a hint of Apple.

    Apple Maps's redesign makes goddamn sense for once. 'where am I, where am I going next? How do I turn this damn thing off?' are features found in the in-nav interface. Meanwhile the discovery features are slick!

    Apple Music...Yeah I know it's weird.. .but it grows fast on you. It's easy to use, It has clever visual touches, it works.

    Understand that design to me is how it works. Making a great app is more about great usability than pretty design. That doesn't mean it can't look good, it just means that there are wrong answers.

    I'ma just do one;

    Tinder.

    Apart from glitches, bugs and bad algorithms, the left/right swiping is just incredibly awesome. Don't think they could've done much better.
