I'm guilty of doing the same... it's really tempting to just copy a solution you know has been tested to death and is probably working... But, what works for them doesn't necessarily works for you. Thanks for sharing, dude :)

I only use "look at Apple" (or whatever else) as a last resort when people don't buy into any particular notion. Sometimes you can explain the science/psychology behind something and people will still not believe it.
Examples can go a long way.
