Introducing New Story Sorting Options

4 years ago from

Hey folks,

Today we're launching some updates for sorting stories on Designer News that the community has been requesting for a while. We think you're going to love them.

Top Stories

In addition to the current top stories you'll now be able to browse stories from 3 additional timeframes: the last week, month, and year.

Badges

Badges have always been a large part of the DN community, but until now there hasn't been a way to view all stories of a given badge type. Go ahead and check out the badges page to see what there is to choose from.

On the back of those two changes you'll also notice that we've updated the header to accommodate the new sorting options. As always we love hearing your thoughts. If you have any questions or feedback please let us know down in the comments or by email.

I love that you've added a way to look at posts by badges; thats a great feature.

It'd be neat if, while you're writing a new post, clicking on one of the badges adds the relevant text to the title (with some ways to make sure its not adding unnecessarily).

I think there might be something wrong with the top year/month/week algorithm. Currently it's ordering popular stories from oldest to newest based on the range selected. Shouldn't this be sorted by number of votes and/or comments in that given time period?

The drop down menus for Top and Badges don't work in Mobile Safari, but I'm wondering if this because I'm running a content blocker.

(Update: Nope, I tried it in a clean version of Chrome for iOS and the drop downs don't work there either.)

Also, should all of the given stories on a badges page be displaying a badge? I'm only seeing a few that are.
