A co-worker also pointed me to this scrolling experience:
From digging in to Apple's source files, it looks like they are maybe doing some kind of texture mapping with this flat JPEG:
this is rad. They could have very easily kept it flat, but instead showcased perspective through texture mapping. Amazing.
3D effects in my Chrome but not Safari
It works in Safari but I think they are doing some sort of performance text to determine whether to send the 2.5D graphic or the flat graphic header.
I'd love for my mac to do this real quick on the desktop every time I woke it from sleep. Just that little jolt back into perspective would be sweet.
Wonder how many people notice it... I didn't!
Do you have ad/script blocking on? I didn't see this until I turned mine off — and the page was surprisingly not very broken without it.
Very strange, besides the hero image I'm not seeing any of the other images on the page :/
Can't see anything happen either on chrome (w/o ad blocker) or on safari :( Really want to experience what everyone is talking about
I'm not seeing it. I wonder is this is either a performance thing (17" mid-2010 MBP) or A/B testing thing?
Probably A/B or something. I've had the same problem, try opening it from an incognito window.
Nope. Safari/Chrome. Private browsing/regular browsing. No changes. I'll give it a shot tomorrow on my Mac Pro tomorrow at work.
I didn't see anything special in Opera so I opened Safari Technology Preview...holy moly, this shit is dope!
It I got it to work on my MBP and Mac Pro at work so I think Apple is doing some sort of performance text to determine whether to send the 2.5D graphic or the flat graphic header. My internet speeds fluctuate at home and last night there were some congestion issues that slowed streaming down a little on Netflix. Not so at work.
