Yeah there should be a point system because link votes should be worth. Maybe like 2pts for link upvotes, 1pt for comments?
You earn karma points when you ask how to earn karma points.
Stroking bunnies. Giving change to homeless people. Eating your vegetables. The DN crew have eyes everywhere then get together once a week to decide who gets points and how many.
You earn karma when other users up vote your posts or your MOTD (message of the day) post (the little quote half way down the front page that isn't a post).

Earning karma points on DN is a difficult task. I have seen many people who write the ukbestessays try and do that, but fail in the end. This method looks like it will work, but I'll have to completely test it out first.
