I've never used Alfred. Is it that much better than Spotlight? I only use Spotlight for searching and launching apps.

I used Alfred years ago and was way better than Spotlight. With the launch of Mavericks (if not wrong) Apple improved Spotlight and nowadays does a lot more things than before, however Alfred allows you to create your own customized functions and that could make the difference for some users.

The "killer feature" is not so much Alfred itself, but the fact that anyone can create an Alfred workflow that extends its usefulness.

Very much like how the iPhone itself, while an awesome product, would not have succeeded without the opening up of its ecosystem through the App Store.

Check out their featured workflows or Packal. I use the Spotify, Github, Convert and Timezones workflows extensively.

If Spotlight suits your needs Alfred is probably overkill, but for me it's an enormous time saver and I hardly ever open Spotlight.

For example to start my local development environment I have to set up three different terminal windows, with Alfred it's one quick command and they set themselves up automatically.

      Workflows are very powerful.

100% agree. I love what they are doing. I think that adding Snippets to the app in the wake of TextExpander's payment switch is really great timing (for me at least). I became a Mega Supporter hoping that this app will continue for a very long time and it seems like it will—which is great.

I'm assuming you know this, but: snippets have been around on Alfred for a while, they're just streamlining the process.

I was a huge Alfred user, until spotlight stole the stage. Is it still worth to use Alfred instead of spotlight? Maybe I should install and find for myself...

Yep, already got my hands on it yesterday. The new workflow tools are great.

Longtime Quicksilver user that converted to Alfred back before they added paid features. I love Alfred and use it every day. Mostly for a handful of workflows that I made. And I use Spotlight for searching for files and still use Alfred for launching apps.

That said I think they're in a tough spot for making more money off of this app. I feel like they're stretching for features worth the upgrade cost. Sure some will upgrade but I think for most users these features won't ever be used. I'm not hating. I love the product and wish there were features here that made me want to upgrade.
