Ask DN: Any inspiration for sites designed for small business clients (as opposed to agency clients)?

almost 7 years ago from , Frontend Software Engineer

Hey DN, I'm looking to get some inspiration from designer/agency portfolios that are targeted towards small business (i.e. non-technical people) that have content that explains benefits as opposed to designer portfolios that are targeted to agencies/employers that focus on technical ability.

An excellent example of what I'm looking for is Anton Sten's Site. Most of the copy shows his process and how it benefits the client.

Any recommendations on where to look or specific examples to check out?

Thanks Adam! To build upon my reply to you on twitter:

I’ve tried to keep my copy as close as possible to how I would talk to someone because my brand is... me. So try and keep the tone of voice (both in terms of design and copy) as true to the brand as possible.

Try to follow that for everything, so what I've tried to do is: - Clean simple design that's really out of the way. - Benefit client's value - Talk in a personal yet professional way - Use my company's size as an advantage rather than something bad

This way, any leads are pretty sure of what they're going to get because that is what I deliver.

Watch Sacha Strauss' 10.000$ of brand advice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvaOu5kCFgU&list=PL0F5E05C67EE1B559&index=8

Hope that helps and again - thanks for showing some love :)

Thanks Anton! Watching the video right now, already really helpful! (and thanks for the twitter reply as well!)

That's the philosophy I'm implementing as well: Simple Design that allows focus on potential clients to get a feel of my process and more importantly how it can benefit their business.

Once I have something tangible, mind if I email you to run it by you?

Actually decided to do a short blog post on the topic: https://antonsten.com/making-promises-your-clients-will-feel/

    Thanks for the inspiration Adam!

There are many different types of websites designed for mini businesses. Some are simple and straightforward while others are more complex and feature-rich. The most important thing is to choose a design that is appropriate for your business and your target audience that also visits https://masterbundles.com/templates/presentations/powerpoint/pitch-deck/ site for best images. A good place to start is by looking at some of the most popular website designs for small businesses.
