Ask DN: Feedback on client site

Link to Client Site

I’d like some feedback on the design because I’m trying to improve my design skills.

Had a 2-week deadline for this project. It was a nice change of pace from some of the 3-6 month projects I usually work on.

I would say there isn't a central, clear call to action. I've read through the content, but what am I supposed to do, buy one of these things? Not quite sure.

Their main site has clearer CTAs, so I imagine this was a small informational microsite? More context would be helpful.

    Cheers!

^ Second this. I was hit with "what am I supposed to do now?".

This is a microsite. The purpose was to provide information about Ecovative’s new product line.

Would you have handled the URL differently? Or the navigation? This was one of the first microsites I’ve developed. The client and I decided to stick with the same brand/colors, but make it a separate website because it didn’t fit well with the rest of their main website.

Superscript that registered trademark in the subhead. The full height mark looks awkward.

There seem to be other parts to the site but there's no nav. Just checked the other links and realized it isn't the landing page.

I've only had a chance to look on mobile but visually the only thing I would suggest is a little increase in padding. The text feels quite squished.

    Otherwise looking good! :)

      Thanks Jody!

I increased the text padding on mobile and, I agree, it looks much better.

I would ask a couple of questions instead of feedback. It looks good overall, but these would be questions I would try to ask myself or other designers in my team.

    • Why is the logo in the footer?
    • Could you have done without the box-shadow?
    • Why is there interaction needed for the images? It's the main point but I have to interact (click or drag) to see them.
    • On large screens, do you think you can improve the line-length of the copy under the image galleries?
    • Would there be a way to make it clearer that the text on the left and the images on the right belong together? (60/40 instead of 50/50)?
    • Could there be a better text-color than #000 for the headings?
    • Is the visible center of the arrows in the circles correct?
    • Could you improve the position of the arrows?
    • Why are the markers for the active photo rectangular?
    • And as asked before: I am missing context, a story, a pitch, a CTA... It's just... Products? Projects?

Nice work, it loads fast and I like the typography.

But... The main site has some elements that the landing page is missing. Like call to actions, contact information and a general description of what the page/company is about.

Also on the responsive side the photo sliders don't always fill up the second column. Maybe fill up the second column with a white background color.

Perhaps also consider to add a different hover color for the links. It seems to me there's just not enough contrast with the light blue and green.

Thanks for the feedback Marcel. I changed the link hover colors to be more accessible.

What do you mean about the photo sliders on the second column? Can you send a screenshot, I’m having trouble recreating the bug.
