Here's some off the top of my head:

Page indicator dots - Doot Doots Unused experiment layers - Dump FX layers - Sparklez / Rainbows / Flavor Crystals

I usually stick to something nice and organized like:

    Layer Copy 4,

    Group 7 Copy,

    Rectangle 132 Copy,

    Oval 25 Copy 2,

    Bitmap,

    Background,

    Button Copy 10

When I'm feeling extra lazy/it doesn't matter, I just name layers "Jones". It's just the first thing to come to my head.

Haha you should supply a terminology doc when you handover your design files so other designers don't get to confused ;)

I once wrote "Foota" instead of "Footer" in a PSD and my employer (which is thankfully now an ex employer) pulled me up on it.

    Sidenote: Employers can be dicks.

Art boards I use for trying random ideas out before including into the main design I usually name "Playground"

Everything else gets named by it's purpose. (Top Panel, CTA Hero, BG Art and so on...)

I'm very OCD when it comes to my layers. Everything is labeled exactly what it is. Ex: bg (background), header, menu bar, body text etc. I can't help it, it's just how I'm wired.

Base, Circle, Rectangle, Bitmap and for text layers the actual text string.

Here's a tip: you can stop PS from appending 'copy' at the end of a duplicate layer and this way if you have 3 profile images, you can just name one Image and they will all be named Image. It's one less thing to have to clean up.

'bg' for 'background' is a standard, but apart from that I'm a bit of a layer name OCD-er, and the best thing I've ever done to keep it in check is to change one of the shortcuts; Ctrl-R now renames a layer, rather than toggling the rulers (because who uses them?). It's the first tip I share with any other designer, and changed my life. Also, you can use emoji in layer names, so [ghost][poop] (DN won't show the real emoji) is valid too...

I don't name everything, but do name folders to give contents context enough to figure out what it is, along with the visual. "Button" will have a text layer and a shape layer, for example, which pretty much speaks for itself!

    Bother

.edit: I just realized this file is a bit of an exception to my usual layer panel usage; I usually have some form of colouring going on as well.
