Before updating Sketch I'm always waiting for a "What's F****d Up" list.

This update breaks the previous Flinto for Mac plugin. We released an update that fixes it this morning: https://www.flinto.com/mac_sketch_plugin

"Text rendering is no longer sub-pixel anti-aliased for performance reasons..."

I had this option set to on manually and Sketch seems to have turned it off and moved (or removed) the option to turn it back on. Anyone know if this is still an option?

A while ago they quietly announced that they were deprecating the feature.

Ya, they just confirmed it is completely gone on Twitter. Now the text rendering is inaccurate in Sketch; everything is rendered way thinner as compared to what it will look like in the browser.

Yep. The silver lining is that it's more accurate for mobile (since iOS and Android do not do subpixel antialiasing, see https://bjango.com/articles/subpixeltext/) and retina desktop displays. Of course, this was always an option before.

I think on the whole, with all of the line-height improvements text rendering in Sketch is more accurate than it has ever been.

You can use -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; to achieve the same look.

Don't forget the grayscale rendering for firefox!

Is there anything inherently wrong with using antialiased font smoothing? I've seen the occasional blog post arguing against using it for readability, but I've always preferred the way text is rendered when antialiased.

Personally not very happy about dropping support for sub-pixel anti-aliasing. Things already looked fine for mobile when you unchecked it in Settings. Now we just have less control and as mentioned above, text rendering is now inaccurate for all web-based designs. That's kind of a big deal.

"Added an item to the menu to make a layer exportable"

As someone who loves creating custom keyboard shortcuts, this is exciting. Does anyone know if I can actually perform the "Export an asset" function with a keyboard shortcut as well? I think I'll wait a bit before updating...

Hypothetically yes, but the only option added was "Make Exportable", no way to actually export the asset (via the menu area, at least).

Has anyone determined a way to center text that has character spacing other than selecting the last letter and setting it's space to zero?

I thought for sure with these text-focused improvements we'd see a solution to that.

Aligning the text box from the top is still a problem.

Tried to toss a simple SVG logo in a file I had. Logo first got completely screwy (rendered just fine in Finder and Illustrator), and then proceeded to zoom out my artboard to -10,000, -10,000 pixels and froze the artboard ability to scroll so I couldn't go back to my work. Quitting and re-opening did nothing.

Only solution was bizarrely to open it on a coworker's computer, move back to the artboard, save it, and reopen it again on my computer.

EDIT: Opened a few more SVG logos. A LOT of them are having rendering issues with vector points randomly moved all over the place. Same exact files render perfectly in browser or in Illustrator.

Glad that there are fixes on line-hight, the text doesn't stay at the top all the time, and it scales with the font size.

Super pumped that slices respect export artboard background's again. That was my biggest complaint in 3.5.2.

I only tried out the new line height improvements after downloading, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

I wiped it and even reinstalled it to make sure it wasn't my legacy build.

Well, zooming in and out of artboards is now super choppy on iMac5K. Text handling is still quirky as hell. Selecting a body of text to edit (when it becomes active/ editable), results in a weird flash/ stutter of the text being selected.

Overall, I love Sketch, but my patience and time is wearing thin with being the guinea pig for such obvious flaws and breaks in their releases.

"Include in Export" of artboard background color is bugged. Even when you disabled it, it still export the background color.

Updated - When selecting text now - there is an abrupt, suddenly blink ever time text is selected. Nothing like being snapped out of your headspace with a blink every time you select text.

    Anyone else getting that?
