Looks nice.. But tbh I am kinda fed up with new mail clients and signing up for their newsletter/beta access thing.

hey Julian — don't worry, we're not doing the whole newsletter thing! we're genuinely looking for early adopters who'd be interested in being amongst the first users :)

I have studied all the features of this mail and have not found anything new. In my opinion this is a young ordinary post. There is nothing attractive in it.

I found it interesting to read "We fell in love [...] with iMessage, WhatsApp, and Messenger." They were talking specifically about read receipts but somewhat ironically, these are the services actually displacing email.

I think we'll continue to see new email clients and AI-powered services that try to make email better but eventually the real game changers will be wholesale replacements for IMAP, POP, and SMTP based services.

I try to send and receive as few emails as possible. Obviously at Facebook, we use Groups and Messenger for everything. I think a lot of companies are there already.

The interface is beautiful and it looks really well done but I wonder how much email they send to each other at Superhuman. :)

Thank you Travis for the very thoughtful comment! And thank you for the kind words about the interface, it's a labour of love for us :)

I do agree that the days of email as we know it are numbered; it's ripe for change. I also think that this change will be driven mostly by (1) integrating new data, and by (2) delivering excellent experiences. Whether it uses IMAP or ActiveSync I think will be irrelevant; Superhuman already uses neither of these.

You're absolutely right here: about 90% of our internal communication takes place over Slack [and before that, HipChat, and before that, Yammer…].

But 99% of our external communication takes place using Superhuman. Email has no platform lock-in, is owned by no one company, is massively searchable, works for everybody we might want to collaborate with, and performs great at both chat-like and also long-form communication.

Where Superhuman really shines is communication across organizational boundaries — whether across companies, or across groups and departments.

(Side note: we see that about 60% of emails are chat; 40% are long-form. So from a design perspective we have a very interesting challenge: how do you build a UX that supports both and seamlessly transitions between the two? We're pretty happy with the interface we have now, but we know there's still plenty more to do :))
